About Jerry
Jerry Trujillo has been here in New Mexico his whole life, building it, raising his family in it, and serving it every day for more than three decades.
Born and raised in Deming, Jerry earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from New Mexico State University and went on to become a registered Professional Engineer. He spent 15 years as a plant design engineer with PNM, then 22 years with the New Mexico Department of Transportation, working on the roads, bridges, and systems that New Mexicans depend on every single day.
He’s been married to his wife, Carol, for 28 years. Together they’ve raised six sons and are proud grandparents to 13 grandchildren.
Since launching this campaign, Jerry has already walked more than 60 miles across District 30—knocking on doors, listening to neighbors, and learning firsthand what families here are dealing with. He’s got about 180 miles left to go, and he’s not stopping until he’s covered every one of them.
District 30 doesn’t need another career politician with an ideology to sell. It needs someone who has spent a lifetime in service to New Mexico, who understands how government works, how infrastructure works, and how working families work. That’s Jerry Trujillo.
WHY I'M RUNNING
I’m not a politician. I’ve never wanted to be one.
But after 35 years of public service—building roads, maintaining infrastructure, working inside state government—I’ve watched Santa Fe drift further and further from the people it’s supposed to serve. And I’ve reached the point where I can’t stay on the sidelines anymore.
I have six sons. Thirteen grandchildren. Many of them are still living here in New Mexico, hoping that it gets better. So when I look at what’s happening in this state—the cost of living squeezing working families, a legislature more focused on national political trends than local needs, a representative who spent her first term protecting illegal immigration while teacher workloads go unstudied and our roads go underfunded—I think about them. And I get back up.
I’m running because I’ve spent my career solving real problems with real constraints. I know how to read a budget. I know how to manage a project. I know how to cut through bureaucracy and get something built. Santa Fe could use more of that and less of what it’s been getting.
I’m running because someone has to stand up and say: New Mexico families come first. Not special interests. Not outside endorsers. Not ideological agendas imported from other states. The people of District 30.
I’ve walked more than 60 miles of this district already, and I’ve heard you. You want safe communities. You want schools that work. You want a government that spends your money like it matters. So do I.

ISSUES
Public Safety & Rule of Law
New Mexico families deserve to feel safe in their communities. That starts with backing the men and women in law enforcement; not tying their hands with sanctuary policies designed in Santa Fe.
Our opponent’s first major act in the Legislature was passing the Immigrant Safety Act, a law that prohibits New Mexico public agencies from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement. District 30 didn’t ask for that. Our local law enforcement didn’t ask for that. It was imposed on us by a representative more interested in scoring points with her progressive endorsers than keeping our neighborhoods safe.
Jerry Trujillo believes in the rule of law—all of it. He will work to restore cooperation between state and local agencies and the federal government on public safety, and he will never vote to shield lawbreakers from accountability.
Economic Opportunity & Responsible Government
New Mexico families are getting squeezed. Costs are up. State government keeps growing. And too many of the people in Santa Fe have never had to meet a payroll, manage a budget, or deliver a project on time.
Jerry has. For 37 years across PNM and NMDOT, he operated inside real constraints with real accountability. He knows the difference between a government that works efficiently and one that just grows. He will fight for tax relief for working families and small businesses, oppose wasteful spending and unnecessary bureaucratic expansion, and bring an engineer’s eye—not an ideologue’s—to the state budget.
His opponent’s response to the immigration crisis was to create an entirely new state government division for refugees. Jerry’s response is simpler: spend the people’s money on the people of New Mexico.
Education
Jerry Trujillo has seen firsthand, as a father and a grandfather, that a strong education system is the foundation of everything else. He believes in teachers. He believes in classrooms. And he believes results matter more than rhetoric.
New Mexico ranks near the bottom nationally in education outcomes. The answer isn’t more memorials and study committees: it’s leadership that demands accountability, supports teachers with real resources, and keeps the focus where it belongs: on students learning.
Studying teacher workloads is not the same as fixing them. Jerry will focus on outcomes, not optics.
Infrastructure & Long-Term Investment
This one is personal for Jerry.
After 22 years at the New Mexico Department of Transportation, Jerry understands better than anyone that the roads, bridges, and utilities that hold a community together don’t maintain themselves. They require planning. Investment. Leadership from people who understand how infrastructure actually works, not people who’ve only read about it.
Jerry will be a forceful advocate for District 30’s infrastructure needs in Santa Fe, fighting for capital investment in roads, utilities, and community systems that make daily life work for families across the district.
